At Home Compost:

The DPW makes compost bins available to Milton Residents at wholesale price. Residents can purchase an Earth Machines composter at the Treasurer's Office at Town Hall for $55. The composters will then be available for pickup at the Milton DPW Yard (629 Randolph Avenue) on the following Thursday. A receipt is required at time of pickup to get the composter.

Check out the video at the bottom of this page on how to use the Earth Machine or other home compost bins. Note: This video is borrowed with permission from the City of Vancouver, BC, Canada. The video states the price of the Earth Machine for Vancouver residents. In Milton, the Earth Machine is $55.

A helpful guide for at home composting is also available here.

Private Pickup Subscription:

Town of Milton promotes two private compost options for residents. These are subscription based for curbside compost pickups.

Black Earth: Milton is partnering with Black Earth to give residents a 30% density discount with 300 subscribers in town! Weekly pickups are currently $16.99 per month, and $89.99 per six months after the discount.

Bootstrap Compost: is offering curbside composting along with clean bucket services for $6 per week ($24 per month) Sign up with the code COMPOSTCURIOUS2024 and receive your first month free!

Communal Compost Pilot Program:

Not all Milton residents have the ability or the means to participate in the above two compost options. To increase compost participation, promote environmental stewardship, and keep food waste in the food chain, the Town of Milton is providing a communal compost bin for all residents as a pilot program.

Bring your food scraps to the communal compost bin at the DPW Yard!

A communal compost bin is located at the DPW Yard in front of the Recycling Center gate which will be available 24/7 for food scrap drop offs. For acceptable compost items please use this guide here: What Can I Put in the Compost Bin?

*Please note, it's extremely important to avoid contamination in the compost bin- if our provider finds Milton has high rates of contamination this resource will be shut down. Contamination is anything that does not belong in the food scrap bin. Refer to the link above for what's acceptable.

We hope to expand this pilot program to a few other areas in Town, check back later for more updates!
