Households that do not participate in the Town Trash cart program. may still use $4 stickers to set out trash. The use of personal barrels is acceptable, however please place a sticker(s) on each item and/or at the top of each barrel.

Opt-In to the Town Trash Program 

Most households have a town-owned 35-gallon trash cart. Trash placed in this cart does not require a sticker. The annual fee for a town-owned trash cart is $208 for July 1 through June 30. Billing occurs in July and the annual fee is not prorated.

To opt in to the trash cart program and receive a Town issued trash cart please contact us with the property address, owner's name, and email address/phone number

To purchase an additional trash cart at any time throughout the year, please email us and provide the property owner's name, address, phone number and number of carts currently at the property. The cost is not prorated and an additional charge will incur for any extras.

Reduced Trash Cart Application for Residents 65+

Residents 65+ may apply for a discount on the annual trash cart fee. To apply, residents must complete the Senior Discount Application (PDF). Residents can return this application either by mail, the Town Hall drop box along with documents supporting date of birth and residency (a license counts for both). The deadline to submit these applications for the 2025-2026 cycle is June 30th, 2025. If you are unable to print the application please stop by the Engineering Department at Town Hall or the DPW Admin Office at 629 Randolph Ave. 

Opt-Out of the Town Trash Program

To opt out of the Town's Trash-Cart Program, print and complete the Opt Out Form. Tape the completed form to the inside of the lid of your town-issued cart and return the cart to the DPW main office on 629 Randolph Avenue, between 8:00 am- 3:00 pm. Monday through Friday, no later than June 30, 2025

When returning your cart, leave the cart in the in the area in the parking lot just in front of the main office that is painted with yellow diagonal stripes. Please ensure the inside of your cart is clean and dry before returning. If you are unable to transport the cart to 629 Randolph Avenue or have questions, call 617-898-4900. If you don't have access to a printer, please hand write the required information and follow the instructions above.

Damaged carts can be returned to the DPW main office on 629 Randolph Avenue between 8:00 am- 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Speak to the folks inside the main office to have a repaired or replacement cart delivered to your address, DPW delivers carts every Friday.

Recycling

Recycling in Milton is complimentary. You may recycle as much material as you would like that follows single stream recycling guidelines. The town provides one recycling cart per household. If additional recycling is needed, residents may use personal receptacles.
